Winters is all about comfort & relaxation as nothing can be much better than wrapping around a warm blanket. Everyone has their own way of enjoying winters .Some prefer going for a run outside while some love staying inside their home. Winters is a season which is a paradise for foodies out there. Foodies have a unique way of celebrating winters. Yes  foodies we know how much you love your hot food on a chilly winter day. I am here with a list of food items which  you must try this winter season. HAPPY WINTERS.

1. Carrot Halwa or Gajar Ka Halwa

Carrot Halwa is the most popular food item to have in winters. Winters means carrot halwa. Having a full bowl of carrot halwa in winters is totally a bliss. Enjoyed by every age group , the show stopper of every party of winters, is made using carrot, milk, sugar as the main ingredients. Carrot halwa is a healthy food item because carrots are a rich source of protein , milk is good for calcium. Health conscious people can go for Sugar Free Natura or Diet Sugar instead of crystaled sugar. Winters are incomplete without this.

2. Kullad Milk

Kullad Milk is best enjoyed in winters. A famous food item which is best suited in winters. You can have this hot Kullad milk in chilly morning or in breezy winter evening. One can have it after working out in gym . The hot milk helps you in keeping your body warm from within, helps to regulate the body temperature. In a mild fever, it is the best medicine. In winters even tea stalls have it on their menu. It is mandatory to have it in winters , especially if you are prone to common cold. Enjoy it this winter season.

3. Moong Dal Halwa

Good things take time to happen , so is Moong Dal Halwa. It takes much time in preparing it at home , but it is worth which you realize after having it's first mesmerizing bite . The aromatic fragrance while preparing it will make you forget everything as you dive into it's sweet smell making your atmosphere happier. On the days when you want to be busy and have nothing much to do, you can step into kitchen and start preparing it yourself to be busy and also to give a treat to yourself . If you have a large group of uninvited guests coming over instead of panicking you can just make it or order it depending upon the time you have. It is a tempting sweet dish to welcome your loved ones in winters or when you have that sweet cravings. Make it with love, Serve it with love.



4. Ice Cream Cake

Ice Cream Cake is a delicious cake totally laden with ice cream. It is a best option for your midnight sweet cravings. A combination of ice cream and cake perfectly mixed together to give a soothing experience to your taste buds. You need no reason to have it , have it when you want to without thinking too much else ice cream will melt.  Have it this winter.

5. Gulab Jamun

A sweet dish to have after a full meal is Gulab Jamun. 
Gulab Jamun is popular among all the people having sweet tooth. It is often prepared for special occasion like Diwali Puja, in birthday parties, or in marriages. No party is complete without it no matter how big or small a party is. It is one of the Bengali sweet loved by people throughout India. In northern India, it is always on the menu. These gulab jamuns are prepared in circular shape & in two colors , black and brown . To make it more better , some people prefer having it with ice cream. Making it in pure desi ghee enhances the taste and texture of it. The main ingredients are basic ingredients that are easily available in the market, basic ingredients include flour, sugar syrup (made with sugar and water), milkmaid or khoya. All the ingredients are mixed gently than after giving it a perfect shape are deeply fried in hot oil making it apt to have it in the chilling winters. Traditional Bengali sweet to binge on in chilly winters.

Don't you think that we are missing something ? yes we are , how can we forget the city of food , our very own Punjab. It would be injustice to Punjabi and it's people if we don't mention them. Makki Di Roti with Sarso Saag with lots of butter on it is the most satisfying full course meal one will ever have sitting in sun in winters. Makki di Roti is a flat bread made from corn flour (made from corn) on very low flame. It is the staple food for Punjabi's with a big glass of Lassi (made from curd). It is full of nutrition, is quite healthy, protein rich food equally enjoyed by all in Punjab and all over India. The perfect combination of Makki Di Roti & Sarson da Saag (combination of soya, spinach, bathua boiled and grinded together) is a time consuming meal as far as it's preparatory time is concerned , but for a full course nutrition enriched meal it is worth it. Basking in the sun during winters and having this meal is a memorable experience.

Paratha , the staple food enjoyed by all throughout India, is every foodie's delight for it's taste which is delicious as well as healthy . Cauliflower parathas are easy to make as they take very less time to cook. Just grate some cauliflower depending upon your taste add some spices to it and you are ready with the stuffing to put to a great taste. Fresh cauliflower is easily available during winters. It is a perfect for your Sunday  brunch if you don’t have enough time. These parathas can make your foggy mornings better . Serve hot with a little butter spread on it. If you don’t like cauliflower paratha don’t worry you can make many other things with cauliflower like cauliflower-potato, cauliflower-peas, cauliflower-carrot and many more simple yet delicious meals for you. 

8. Coffee/Tea

What can be more perfect than a warm cup of coffee in your hand in winters when the outside temperature is as cold as ice. For all the coffee lovers out there I understand that our day cannot start without a hot cup of coffee. There are many advantages of having coffee in winters. It keeps us warm, is a great stress buster, makes us feel relaxed. We have more reason to have our coffee in winters for the ways in which coffee helps us to stay awake in office. Nothing can be more relaxing than enjoying our cup of coffee in winters in silence.

Soups are the lifelines for your body in winters. A bowl of soup keeps you healthy as it gives you immunity to fight against germs which may make your body as their new home resulting in making you sick , which will no doubt ruin your winter vacations. Soup is a full healthy meal for everyone in the family. In winters we have all the vegetables easily available in our nearby markets  making it easy for us to have a big bowl of vegetable soup in morning or in evening. There is a variety of soups for you to choose from.tomato soup to our favorite maggi soup we have a healthy menu on. Vegetable soup is easy to make so is tomato soup. You just need to boil all the vegetables and transfer them to a bowl. It’s best if you don’t throw the vegetable stock as by doing so it will retain all it’s nutrients.

You know it’s winters when you wake up to vegetable hawkers selling fresh spinach that too erly in the morning. For 90’s born spinach is synonymous to most loved cartoon character Popeye- The Sailorman. Spinach is a power house of vitamins, energy, proteins. Spinach is a green leafy vegetable  which is a perfect food item to binge on. Spinach is everyone’s favorite as it takes very less time to cook. Yummy spinach with cottage cheese is a food item to die for , for our foodies.  Spinach and potato is a good option if you don’t like cottage cheese much.

Peas is our favorite for they cook in no time. And in winters they are easily blended with many other vegetables to make our Vegetable Pulao. The hot plate of pulao after a tiring day in office can make you forget all the worries of office. It's quite popular in North India for grandmothers to peel peas while basking in sun.  There are many other things which you can make with peas and they differ greatly from those packed frozen peas. The texture and taste is much different. You can also make it with just rice they taste the same. Peas have many essential nutrients in it.

12. Maggi

Maggi is a food savior item for every season. Having your favorite Maggi noodles with a warm cup of coffee/tea during chilly winters is a bliss. To make it healthier and more yummy just add veggies in it. Me & My Maggi is all you need in the chilly winters. A bowl of Maggi will keep you warm, you can also go for Maggi Soup by adding more water while making maggi. If you live in Hostel or as a Paying Guest/Tenant then it is must to have a full stock of maggi.

Pickle is a food item which makes our food complete. I am sure most of you must have seen your grandmothers making pickles at home as the art of making pickles in India dates back to centuries. The pickle recipe is like a treasure which keeps on passing from one generation to another. We Indians are sorted people even when it comes to pickles. We have pickles for every season, for soaring high temperatures in summer and for chilly winters. I remember my maternal grandmother used to make sweet mango pickle in summers while in winters we used to have Cauliflower and Turnip pickle stored in a glass jar  and I am pretty sure that you also must be having in your home.
